One Metre Below the Fish

n_METRO-SOTTO-I-PESCI2

The Po delta extends, in Veneto, in a triangle of land quite vast. The vertex is located in Adria and the two extreme points are located, to the north, in Chioggia and, to the south, in the island of Scardovari, in the arm of the Po di Goro. This land has a great social-anthropological, landscaping and naturalistic charm. It is a land where the mouth of the Po has determined the lifestyle and dictated the time of the years and where the border is not only a geographical boundary between two regions, Emilia and Veneto, but also an existential condition that has made the inhabitants of these places people at the limit. The dialect of this land is strange, broken, the result of linguistic mixtures. And it is precisely through linguistic assonances, puns, sayings, that we will understand a little more where we are and with whom we are talking. We will cross the three islands that make up the Delta following the dense network of canals as if they were roads of a city. A particular city, unique in its kind, of which we would like to offer a more intimate vision linked to the soul of these places and a more objective, geographical, to trace the limits of this area. The lagoon area of the Po delta is composed of small towns that are lost in very wide horizons, large plots of land, water, canals. We will try to tell these places visually starting from the simple and direct relationships between things, shapes, colors. A dimension of reality where the times and ways of post-modern society come to fade only through a lazy television that sticks at the bottom of a counter of tavern. The musical rhythm of the story will be given by a boat that every year goes through the Po Delta, from Rovigo to Foce, embarking Blues musicians who play for a dense group of audiences. We will follow him in this playful lapping of notes and waves, breathing an air not very different from the one that the black bluesmen with guitar and hat make vibrate in the nights on the bank of the Mississippi.
